Guilherme Barroso | lute

Born in Rio de Janeiro, the lutenist Guilherme Barroso leads an internationally active career.

He performs regularly with ensemble such as Sollazzo Ensemble (Anna Danilevskaia), astrophil&stella (Johanna Bartz), Ensemble La Boz Galana (Sebastián León), Ensemble Tentalora, Ensemble Elyma and Ensemble Ébalides (Gabriel Garrido), Ensemble Arte Mínima (Pedro Sousa Silva), Galimatias Baroque Ensemble (Ivan Rodriguez) among others throughout Europe and South America.

Guilherme has a Masters degree in Lute Pedagogy with Peter Croton at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and a Masters degree in Lute Performance with Eduardo Egüez at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Before that he studied with Ronaldo Lopes at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto and also Choir Conducting and Musicology at Universidade Federal do Rio de

Janeiro. He has been awarded prizes as composer and as lutenist in Germany, France, Portugal and Brazil. Recent projects have given him enthusiastic reviews in which his performances have been described as virtuosic, intelligent and touching.

Currently, Guilherme teaches lute and basso continuo in the Lisbon’s Superior Music School (ESML) and conducts the Kirchenchor St. Martin Egerkingen in Switzerland.
